JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL, LIVING IN A LONELY WORLD
melanie sighed loudly as she put down the third magazine that she had read that day. it was barely twelve and it was a saturday yet she was at home, doing nothing. god, she hated being seventeen. there was nothing to do. actually, she shouldn't say that because even her twin and younger brother had something to do today. it was official, she was a loser. well, not really. the only reason she had nothing to do was because she had decided to work on her science project instead of hanging put of her friends. that wasn't a good idea. melanie had finished her science project an hour ago and she felt bad calling her friends and telling them that she had actually finished. sometimes she hated being such a goody two shoes but it was kind of hard to change, especially since she was already going to get out of high school. melanie grabbed another magazine but she dropped it a second later because her siblings had just walked into the room and scared the life right out of her. they laughed as they saw her startled but still mad look. they took a seat on their own bed and started chatting about the next party they were going to. now, melanie loved her sisters but she hated sharing a room with them and her two other siblings. they were eight in total but only five of them lived at home. her oldest brother had already gotten married and her other brother and sister had enough scholarship money to go to the schools of their dreams. melanie couldn't wait for the day when she could do that, but she couldn't bear to leave her mother behind. especially since her father was so close to getting out of jail. the thought of her father made melanie mad so she quickly erased the thought from her head. he might not have hurt her, but hurting her mother was enough. anyways, she grabbed the magazine of the floor again and began flipping through the pages. unfortunately, her sisters' talking was getting to her so she got up, told them that she had somewhere to be, and walked out the door. mel didn't know where she was going but it didn't really matter. it was times like this when she was glad that she did not have a car. yeah, she knew how to drive but they couldn't afford to give each other a car. so she shared two cars, well technically one since her mother worked. and not even one, since her sisters worked as well. anyone else would have hated it but it really made melanie appreciate the little things. anyways, she had been walking so much that she had reached the local park. she remember walking here the first time she came to fairfield. she always thought it was so beautiful and peaceful. melanie pulled a rubber band from her jeans and pulled her hair into a loose ponytail before running to the swings. childish, but she didn't care. she just swung like she didn't have a care in the world. melanie jumped off the swing and landed a few feet away, a smile on her tanned face. she had closed her eyes while in the air but as soon as she felt the ground she opened them, only to see a familiar face right in front of her.
